Press Release: Journey – REVELATION European release date, artwork & tracklisting revealed.

From Frontiers Records:

Frontiers Records is presenting the new chapter in the legendary career of multi-platinum US rockers JOURNEY – Neal Schon (guitar), Jonathan Cain (keyboards), Ross Valory (bass), Deen Castronovo (drums) and Arnel Pineda (vocals) – entitled Revelation.

The brand new record will come in a beautifully packaged two CD set which will include 11 new songs and 11 re-recorded classics and will be released in Europe on Frontiers Records on June 6th 2008.

(NOTEThe U.S. release is June 3rd exclusively through Wal-Mart.)

Revelation is the first Journey album to feature the angelic voice of Filipino singer Arnel Pineda. Guitarist Neal Schon says about him “We feel reborn. I think there’s a lot of chemistry between the five of us. The new stuff sounds tremendous. Everyone’s so stoked about it. We feel very fortunate to have found Arnel”.

“Arnel brings a soulful and passionate voice to Journey”, continues keyboardist Jonathan Cain. “His personality is very well-suited to our music. He’s a sincere, authentic person with a great smile and a big heart. I think fans are really going to love him. With Arnel’s soaring tenor, Journey returns to our heritage sound.”

The first album with lead vocalist Arnel Pineda, Revelation is Journey running on no less than twelve cylinders, a fine-tuned offering that sounds every bit like a band hitting their stride. Schon and Cain penned all 11 of the new tracks on “Revelation”. There is no lack of chemistry in Journey, beginning with the songwriting core of Schon and Cain. “I felt strongly about moving forward and writing new material. It was time,” Schon states. Schon then put the call into Cain and started the song writing process which has now become the album, “Revelation”. “There’s an innate trust and respect for what we each do as we weave our way through this music,” says Cain. Schon adds, “In the alphabet, I might be a Z and Jonathan the A, that’s just how opposite we are musically sometimes. I write mostly rock and Jonathan writes most of the ballads, but when you combine the chemistry of us together, you’ll find that it is the nucleus and sound of what is and has been Journey. And now, with the right voice in place, we have all the right ingredients.”

‘Never Walk Away’ kicks Revelation off with the resilient air and upbeat optimism fans have come to expect from Journey, a melody-soaked and guitar-driven anthem sure to ignite the live circuit just as it lights up the new release. The heartwarming sentiment offered by “Like a Sunshower” gives a more poetic and reflective look at relationships. It’s an uncharacteristic ballad from the more hard rock-inclined Schon. There’s even an instrumental, The Journey (Revelation), at the request of producer Kevin Shirley, who returns to the fold after working with the band on Trial By Fire (1996) and Arrival (2000), the band’s first instrumental since Departure (1980) and Evolution (1979). “This is a special song for me”, Schon says of the sprawling track, “it was extremely gratifying to express myself on my instrument in this way”. This is a great performance from everyone in the band and truly a majestic track.

But every member of Journey shines on the whole of Revelation. Lead singer Arnel Pineda does plenty of head turning of his own throughout the new recordings, as well as the 11 classic hits that the band re-recorded. Jonathan Cain’s keyboards elevate ‘After All These Years’ to new emotional heights. ‘What I Needed’ is a power ballad, driven by heavy guitars, reminiscent of the early Journey that so many bands have modeled themselves after. Deen Castronovo drums up a frenzy during the hard-driving rock song, ‘Wildest Dream’. The talented Castronovo also sings most of the high harmonies heard throughout the album, proving that not only is he an amazing drummer, but he’s a dynamic vocalist as well. Schon’s smoking guitars rip through this track with a cool, eastern flavor. Bassist Ross Valory is steady throughout, a stabilizing force through the albums more driven highs and heartfelt lows.

Revelation tracklisting will include the following songs:
CD1: ‘Never Walk Away’, ‘Like A Sunshower’, ‘Change For The Better’, ‘Wildest Dream’, ‘Faith In The Heartland’, ‘After All These Years’, ‘Where Did I Lose Your Love’, ‘What I Needed’, ‘What It Takes To Win’, ‘Turn Down The World Tonight’, ‘The Journey (Revelation)’.

CD2: ‘Only The Young’, ‘Don’t Stop Believin”, ‘Wheel In The Sky’, ‘Faithfully’, ‘Any Way You Want It’, ‘Who’s Crying Now’, ‘Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)’, ‘Lights’, ‘Open Arms’, ‘Be Good To Yourself’, ‘Stone In Love’.

  1. I love this cover. Classic Journey reborn.

I’m still sore over Jeff Scott Soto being given the boot. He was so solid when I saw him at the first show after they brought him on board–very impressive. But I’ll give this a chance.

  2. CHARLIE BARROS, nice to have a teacher on the blog but who cares???? The most important thing is to understand each other and you did understand STEVE thats why you corrected him and i dont understand why you did that. Correct me too please teacher Charlie.

  3. David – I’m still pissed about JSS getting the boot too.. I saw the tour live with him on the mic and it was awesome.

Charlie – Dude, I copied and pasted the press release i got from the PR people for Journey. I apologize for the error…’s been fixed.

Rene – Thanks for having my back!

  4. I already ordered my copy and can’t wait to hear every new and classic songs and view the video. I am prepared to be impressed or depressed. I doubt very much that I’ll be depressed, though.

  5. So far I like what I hear. When journey comes to Detroit this will be 16 shows
that I have seen. The journey must move on and Arnel fits the sound of journey of old. Can’t wait to see you guys.

  6. rhodeislandrock, i see you’ve deleted my comment on rene. there was nothing graphic about it. just telling it like i saw it. too bad you’re biased because if you weren’t you would’ve deleted rene’s as well.

  7. Here’s your comment:

“Oh, Reneh. How would you like it if someone misspelled your name? Of course, people care, just not your people maybe. Thank you, Rhodeislandrockfor the apology but I think you would’ve been just fine w/o Reneh covering your back.”

My site, my rules. Nothing was graphic about it and I usually let all the comments stay on, check the other Jourmey threads. You weren’t even engaging Rene, you were engaging me. I never took offense to the comment from Charlie, I explained the mistake (wasn’t mine) and that was that. You decided to continue the negativity when I diffused it. I will do what I want on my site when I want to and if I think a comment should be deleted, I will delete it.

  8. mr. rhodeislandrock, rene’s insensitivity towards someone who was obviously offended by the misspelling of his ethnicity is a form of racism in my book. i was pointing that out to rene as well as to you because you didn’t seem to notice it. if my sarcasm offended you, then it served its purpose which was to bring you to the realization that racism is not ok & i wont have either. yes, this is your site & you can do whatever you want. i got my point across. thank you for having me. goodbye.

  9. The first time i heard Arnel with AMO Band and their single “Running Away” way back early 90’s we made our rendition of this.
“After All These Years” new song, it was awesome.. we can’t wait to have their CD/DVD..Keep on rockin’ JOURNEY

  10. New songs i’ll give a score of a+ old songs(arnel can sing it no doubt)I have not hearing any good lyrics that has meaning lately but this one you have to try and score it for yourself, by the way it’s Rock & Roll

  11. Pingback: Journey Revelation »

  12. stop comparing steve to arnel both of them are good. no doubt about it i just dont understand some people how come they never give arnel pineda a chance like they did to steve p. when he start his career just accept the fact that there is a lot of good singers now a day’s not only steve people lets all move on stop looking something bad to arnel like his accent what do you expect he’s a filifino not american. so please just buy the cd like i did already and support the new journey ok !

  13. MARILYN 916, I’m sorry, but I can’t stand any longer the way that they (Schon & Cain) always try to hide the truth behind a new singer, this time Arnel, you know…” he’s great, he’s fine, he’s the best….” as happened with S. Augeri, but at the deep end it’s all the same: Lookin’ for Perry’s voice. To me, the matter that all Journey fans miss Perry is not only his voice, ( I admit that Arnel is very close to it), It’s that Perry wrotes too along with Schon and Cain the most of the hits of Journey so to me a big part of the spirit of Journey has gone with Perry.

  14. i cant understand why some people seem to be in denial, the new journey sounds great just admit it!arnel p was perfect replacement for sp,though augeri may have sound good too, but theres no magic, just admit it! arnel p puts incredible energy into the new band, and the great news is that, their concerts are all sold out and so is the album too, so… whats the need for all the hating?? u just sound like a hypocrite, people of america grroooow up!

  15. Love the new cd/dvd, sounds fantastic and the lyrics are really good. I bought 6 copies, one for me, the rest are for my friends and relatives. I listened to all of the songs every night and it makes me feel so relax after a stressful day at work.

  16. I would like to point out that had SP gotten a hip replacement the band would not likely have had a frontman replacement to begin with, but he chose to remain physically unable to perform. The album sales since he left, however, have spoken volumes, he was an incredible artist and can’t be replaced. JSS did not provide, IMHO, the same magic that SP did. This being said I have recently purchased Revelation and the magic is back, the sound of Journey is there, I have watched the dvd and listened to all of the classic album, I have only listened to half of the new material, it was all fresh but still had that familiar sound that screams JOURNEY, I am still deciding how much I like the new stuff but I am impressed with the updated recordings of their past hits
All in all this album is a great value and I hope that other artists take a page from the book of Journey on this one.

  17. I just love the new album. The presentation was great, the new Journey has arrived. The album is always sold out, I bought a few myself and gave them away. Hope you do the same as oppose to burning copies.

    JOURNEY! Hip… hip… Hooray!

  18. Arnel Pineda is the best he makes the Filipino proud… Since Arnel is the new vocalist it will draw more attention to Asian Countries So I hope they would tour around the world to spread their music!!! Journey rocks.. Goodluck…

  19. I was not a Journey fan until i heard the voice of their new lead vocals. It hit me big time, when you play the cd/dvd all you wanted is to replay it all over and over again. What i admire is even some people say bad comments AP remains meek and sings his best in every concert just showing this boy has good breeding! Lets support him instead than trying to put someone down just because of his color.God created as equally the more you put someone down God will i turn put him to a higher ground and you will just be shamed of your comments. Sp is the past he already has a place in history,Arnel is the present and future.Journey has to move on lets respect the group they (esp. Neal) made the best decision in bringing AP to the group ,thanks for giving color to my life once again. To Arnel, give your best, dont be discouraged by the evil thoughts of your detractors, there is something in you that somebody dont have.remember that you have more fans that love and support you. The New Journey, you are simply the BEST!!! Just cant wait when you go global…

  20. Just bought Journey’s Revelation Album Europe edition.. I’m just wondering why there’s no dvd in it.. I find it odd Journey with a Filipino frontman.. But can’t complain, that Filipino guy is awesome! I just think he is destined to be Journey’s present and future.. Filipinos I guess are talented singers.. Some of them I’ve heard were in X-factor… Two of them to be exact, a woman and a little kid.. just can’t remember their names.. My biggest regret though is I wasn’t able to watch their concert here in London coz I didn’t know they were here.. Catch you next time Journey!

  21. wow! im not a rock fanatic nor do i love listening to these songs but damn! journey rocks! AP is awesome! now i appreciate rock music more because of this talented new vocalist.. i am really quiet impressed. wanna hear their songs more.. plus new journey album wosth every of ur penny… nice!!

  22. Arnel Pineda sounds a lot like Steve Perry and i like it. It’s almost as if we got the old Journey with Steve back. Oeh and i like the songs also ofcourse. Some great tunes in Journey style as we know it. ;-P

  23. I have had listened to this CD for the 3rd time. In my first round, I got sucked into the music after the 3rd track and forgotten that they’ve a new frontman and all the nitpick that I’ve read. Really good Journey music and a worthy Album of the Year nominee in Classic Rock Magazine. Super!

  24. I’m not a fan actually of Journey, but i like there new stuffs, frontman & the voice, you can’t beat arnel pineda by saying negatives to him, mahirap dinaanan nyan, sumuot sa butas ng karayom yan! I saw there live in youtube and he’s more aggresive than steve perry, being a band member is not only the voice but the performance also to keep the audience more alive… go for it arnel,,,,Filipino Irish community is supporting you 100%

  25. Agreed. :)

The whole Philippines is behind you Arnel… More power! 9999% ka samen… :D

    My word to the haters?

“Whatever yaya, you’re such a loser yaya”

  26. I have been a Journey fan for a long time. I missed SP he was great on his own time. Another great singer is born and it’s his time to shine. I love the new album Revelation we have to purchased 2 of this album. Keep on shining Journey.

  27. When Arnel is not singing a famous Steve Perry song, his OWN voice is actually very good. All old Journey fans have really ever wanted is ORIGINALITY on NEW MATERIAL! Those 11 re-recordings were disrespectful in the eyes of Steve Perry fans; which you have to put into perspective to understand. Established singers have a legacy and have built a fan base with certain songs familiar by their voice only. If jimmy Page were to take a virtual stranger from anywhere in the world, US, UK, Ireland, Japan, Italy, France or Rhodesia … and re-record Stairway to Heaven, fans would be furious! They released the 11 re-recorded tracks in with the new stuff in revelations album, but that wasn’t Arnel, it was Neal and it was done with malicious intent; now Arnel bears the brunt unfortunately.

  28. I do not think, given Arnel’s seemingly loving, kind nature, that he would ever intentionally go along with the agenda Neal Schon wants to execute, but now Arnel is LOCKED IN contractually and has to do what they want or he will be in breach and sued. He did not know beforehand what Neal had up his sleeve out of pure hatred for Steve Perry.
